day 2 Through Rio Grande

Well they said you haven't seen wind until you have been to Patagonia and they were right. Since we last wrote we have traveled from Ushuaia to san Sebastian which is on the border of Argentina and Chile. Our first day out of Ushuaia was cold but beautiful. We left Ushuaia at 8.30am feeling a little wobbly on our laden bikes. We were treated icing sugar hills and mountains, passed through beautiful valleys and had snow on Garabali pass. We then went passed Lake Fagnano. It was a dream as we sped past amazing scenery with a slight tail wind. We got to Tolhuin reasonably early so pushed on twenty or so kilometers where we found a nice quiet place to camp for the night. The next day we awoke to another fine day but with a bit more wind - this time it was a headwind. We passed through vast open plains with llama looking things everywhere. The wind picked up during the day so we sought shelter from the wind and a nice man opened his shed for us. He offered us a ride to Rio Grande only after 2.5hours. We said we were keen but were too cold waiting.we rode on with the hope he'd stop but he tooted and drove on. Never mind we soldiered on and actually after a really tough day we enjoyed10km of tailwind to Rio Grande.
what a town!! Probably the ugliest town we have ever seen. We got some food then headed back into the headwind in search of a place for the night. Just when we thought we were not going to find anywhere sheltered we came across a missionary village - they let us camp in a sheltered grove in their grounds - wow what a blessing - we were stoked . We cooked up a delicious stir fry and hit our beds feeling very lucky
