Coyhaique to the Lakes Districts

We´ve now clocked up over 2000km on the clock and have entered the Lakes Districts.  After much discussion we decided and undecided and decided again to head up the Chilean Lakes District rather than pass over to the town of Futelefu in Argentina.  With the promise of more stunning scenery, quieter roads and less chance of rain we thought it sounded like a brilliant plan.
We left Cohayque and Ahhh the warmth!!!

Can you see these Bulls all geared up to tow a huge trailer of firewood!

We have been very lucky to have always found a reasonable Campsite.  This one may have been one of our worst but check out the views.

Pretty major roadworks to get through today.  The truckies and roadworkers were all so polite ... even if there were wolf whistles and comments about our beautiful bikes!!! - we think

Pretty major roadworks...we were (but werent really) blown away by the scale of it

Stunning vistas along the way
We came across some cyclists and men in a ute on the side of the road.  As we do, we stopped to chat to the cyclists.  Well... perfect timing and very lucky to be offered fresh Salmon pizza and coffee.  We spent a good hour hanging out with these locals, it was a great experience.  The cyclist sung us the Chilean Anthem....and we had to sing ours!

A beautiful river and some sun to dry our tent and heat some water for a hot and well needed shower!

Bathing beauty

Over a small piece of barb wire and found ourselves a stunning campsite.
Great spot to have another fire

Even had a cleaning lady come in to do the dishes!
We parked up our bikes for an hour or so and took a walking track up to see a Glacier

Ah, camping at the Ocean!
Great to hear the waves lapping and smell the salt air

Back on the road and we finally found out why so many of the trees around us were dead.  Volcanic devastation from ?2008

Timely arrival at the ferry terminal to enjoy a Cafe con Leche!

Boarding the ferry

Crossing the fiords.
We had 2 crossings to do this day. A friendly person suggested we hitch a ride with them in order to make the 2nd one.  We gladly accepted and we were glad we did as there was no way we would have made it ontime...and would have had to wait till the next day.
As we were crossing the second strait, the skies opened and the lovely guy drove us to a Cabana for the night.  We were feeling pretty happy with ourselves to be dry and indoors for the storm to pass.

Celebrating our good fortunes
The perils of being a cyclist!

Cooking on the old wood stove
Dulce de Leche on fried tortillas
Also made fresh apple crumble here

One of the many portaloos on the side of the road.  We finally Needed it at the right time.

We love the gifts of Chile.  Fresh Blackberries, apples.... we joked how great it would be to have apricots one time!

Puerto Mont
The view of the city from here scared us, so we bipassed it and headed for the lakes

Yea baby, fresh bread with peanut butter and fresh berries
